About Dana Thomas Dana Thomas waited on her first World Champion customer, G.M. Livingston, in 1974. She was only 8 years old. From then on, she worked in the shop, waited on customers, and got up orders to mail out. She even helped her dad set up customer accounts on the first computer system they had at the store. Growing up in the store, Dana always imagined taking over the family business with her brother. But when Dana was 19 and a freshman at MTSU, she stopped working at the family store when her dad sold the shop. Dana went through college and got a degree in accounting. She continued her education and earned a Master’s degree in accounting and became a CPA. After receiving her Master’s degree, Dana taught accounting at MTSU for 3 years. In 1993, Dana became the Shelbyville City Treasurer and moved back to Shelbyville. 8 months later, David started the Winner’s Circle Horse Supply. “The timing was just too perfect. I moved back to Shelbyville just in time,” she said. Dana served as the City Treasurer for 4 years, and she also partnered with her brother, David, by doing the books for The Winner’s Circle. In 1997, she started her full time position at the store. It’s amazing how things come full circle. Dana’s childhood dream of taking over the family business was realized, but not in the way she always imagined. We share Dana’s story with you, not only to share the origin of our company, but to encourage you not to give up hope. Even if you have been disappointed or dreams have not been realized, just hold onto hope. You never know what may be around the corner. |
